4 strands is exactly like 3 strands, except on one side you jump 2 strands instead of 1.
This video over complicated things.

I have finally sorta gotten my hand on the first four strand braid. Since my hair is frizzy and likes to cling to each other it's hard to stay separate. I have found separating them into two braids instead of one helps me control the hair better. So that I can practice on that and improve with moving on to bigger amounts of hair.

Tips from someone who’s been wearing a 4-strand braid every day for months now:
– Use your mouth. Sounds weird and gross, but hold the strand closest to your face in your mouth. Then when it’s time to switch that strand with the incoming strand, you can just drop it, put the new strand in your mouth, and pick up the old one.
– Practice with your hair in a low side ponytail, it’s a million times easier because your hair can’t go anywhere.
– If you absolutely stink at braiding and constantly mix up your strands, put different colored elastics on the ends of your sections and remember with color goes where as you’re braiding.

Oktober 6, 2020 @ 6:40 pm
Perfect. Just what I needed to braid lengths of four individual wires into a flexible loom to keep them tidy. Many thanks.

Thank you! Also, I'd love to see French/Dutch versions of these, too, but I'm not good enough at them (yet) to try. Maybe you could do a video showing such variations?

Oktober 6, 2020 @ 6:40 pm
I've always loved the 4 strand round braid, though I rarely take the time to start it – usually I'm in a hurry to braid my hair, and I know most people won't appreciate it… although typing this out just made me realize I SHOULD take the time to do it for myself.
Oktober 6, 2020 @ 6:40 pm
Your tutorials are GREAT! I would have never thought I could do this, but aside from the cramps in my hands it's actually not difficult! THANK YOU!!! (The pushing upwards didn't work, though. My hair is VERY thick, could it be that?)

I've never been able to do much past a simple 3 strand (I can french braid on other people). Now I have 3 new braids I can do on myself ^^
Oktober 6, 2020 @ 6:40 pm
So cool! I wonder though if a four strand french or dutch braid is possible. It sounds sooo complicated
